A news release....

Jun. 25, 2015

After 46 years, CiTR 101.9 FM moves into a brand new home this weekend.

On Saturday, June 27, CiTR invites members, friends, donors, fans and alumni to their new station opening party and first broadcast from their new studios.

CiTR’s brand new home features more space for studios, their music library and growing staff and volunteer base. The new Student Union Building (SUB) is located next to the current SUB and Aquatic Centre. The spectacular new building is five stories and 230,000 square feet. It is 50% larger than the current building, to serve the needs of an expanded student population, and will be the first student union building in the world to be LEED Platinum certified for environmental sustainability.

Join us on Friday, June 26 at 7-10 p.m. for a “wake” to say goodbye to the old station. On Saturday, June 27, join CiTR from 1-5 p.m. for the first and last broadcast, with the switchover to the new studios at 2 p.m. Alumni are invited to broadcast throughout the weekend. Visit http://www.citr.ca/newstationcelebration to RSVP and for more information.

CiTR has been a focal point for independent local music and news coverage since its inception, building audiences for Vancouver bands and launching the careers of journalists, writers and broadcasters. Notable alumni include broadcaster Pierre Berton, lawyer and former judge Wally Oppal, CBC reporters Dan Burritt and Lisa Christiansen, Jon Woodward from CTV News, Stuart Derdeyn at the Province, former Harvard professor and broadcaster Leora Kornfeld, filmmaker Susanne Tabata, former Globe and Mail columnist Chris Dafoe, Bill Baker and Randy Iwata of Mint Records, digital strategist Tod Maffin, Terry McBride from Nettwerk Records, and many more.
