Career Opportunity: Full Time News Anchor

Global BC, a division of Shaw Media is looking for a Permanent, Full-time News Anchor, located in Burnaby, British Columbia. This position will report to the Global BC News Director.

The successful candidate will be responsible for anchoring, writing, producing and delivering news content on Global BC and BC1 newscasts as needed.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

As a News Anchor, the following is an outline of some but not all of the primary functions and responsibilities for this position:
• Anchor Global BC's market leading Weekday Morning Newscast, as well as other newscasts on Global BC and BC1, as required;
• Write news copy for on-air and online, including newsbreaks, story leads and bumpers for news programs;
• General assignment reporting, segment producing and live hits as required for Global BC and BC1;
• Initiate and monitor story development, and maintain quality of production;
• Monitor all news sources, including feeds, wires and social media;
• Chase breaking news stories - including coordination of live coverage and setting up interviews for broadcast; facilitating pictures and video for online coverage;
• Communicate breaking or changing news situations with online and other show producers and anchors;
• Assist in the coordination of reporters, editors and cameras when necessary;
• This position will contribute content for the Global BC website;
• Position may involve a variety or shifts including early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Desired Skills and Experience
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Degree or diploma in Broadcast Journalism from a recognized institution;
• At least 8 years' experience anchoring and reporting for a newscast in a major market;
• Experience anchoring live breaking news and performing live hits as a reporter and/or anchor;
• Proven ability to write accurate, concise, creative broadcast copy and put together news line ups;
• Experience meeting multiple deadlines for broadcast and online;
• Ability to develop sources, contacts and research original stories;
• Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation;
• Should be familiar with current state of online news reporting and publishing;
• Familiarity and ease in using Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media;
• Must have excellent people skills with the ability to work independently, effectively and cooperatively in a team environment;
• Represent the company at various community and charity events.

Global Tv LIVE is in beta and maybe will be ready for the new anchor.... seems to be an addition to what they have.

Do the curent staff contribute to the website pages... the job description seems to indicate web related work.

Web work is the latest form of desking these days for both radio and TV. An anchor job these days is like any other, "feed the beast".

However, as stated, be prepared to work, morning, noon, and night. Might as well bring a camper trailer to the parking lot of Global BC.

LOL... Maybe if I was forty years younger... and I had a camper trailer... But thanks for the suggestion TRD... :occasion5:

LOL You can get a great deal on a camper, now that the winter season is approaching ! A used winnibago in mint shape for just $ 5500.00.

You must be prepared to do anything and everything all of the time for half the salary we paid someone just to anchor a couple of years ago.
You won't be working for just one station, likely for three.
There will be no job security.
There is no salary mentioned, number of hours of work expected per day, what benefits are being offered, etc.
You will be working for Shaw.
