Grand Forks Gets Juiced

Postby radiofan » Thu Mar 10, 2016 9:30 pm

Local radio returned to Grand Forks at 1PM this afternoon when Vista Radio killed the Goat FM simulcast (from CKQR Castelgar) on CKGF 102.3.

In it's place they launched JUICE FM with a local emphasis on the Grand Forks and Boundary Country region with a Variety Hits format.

CKGF operates with 1,043 watts and is also rebroadcast on repeaters in Christina Lake at 93.3, Greenwood at 96.7 and Rock Creek at 103.7.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

So do they have just a morning show and then simulcast Kelowna for the rest of the day?

Given the history of the area, I'm surprised they didn't brand it as DUKE-FM.

CKGF originally started out with a morning show, but at one time was live 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekedays, 6 a.m. to noon saturday. The rest came from CKOK and then later from Trail when the station was sold.

Wow, always nice to see when a station that previously served as a repeater for another station becomes its own radio station. It'll be interesting to see if they broadcast Grand Forks-area programming from a separate studio room in Castlegar, in Grand Forks itself or in Grand Forks for part of the day and then sub in programming from Grand Forks or even Kelowna. :)

Anyone wondering if Vista Broadcast Group will ever go public and what percentage does the chairman of the company, that lawyer, own?

Cheers,
Doug
