Dr. Sport / Greg Douglas ends his run in the Vancouver Sun

Postby kal » Sat Nov 19, 2016 8:14 am

Douglas has been a fixture on the Vancouver media scene for decades, as a writer, a broadcaster, a media director and a promoter. Today he ends his long run in the Vancouver Sun, putting his influential bi-weekly column to bed with a final -30- . It really is the end of an era. Douglas has helped promote many a career in the sports media sector.

As he writes in that last column, he started at the Vancouver Sun back in 1966. Just a few years later he became media director for the fledgling Vancouver Canucks as they entered the NHL. Perhaps it is fitting that the column come to an end the same week that Pat Quinn, a member of that first team, was inducted, posthumously, into the NHL Hall of Fame.

Vancouver's newspaper scene isn't what it once was. In fact there is significant doubt that the two major Vancouver dailies can survive another year or two. It's been wonderful to have Greg Douglas and his Dr. Sport column in The Sun for the past 19 years.

Greg Douglas, also known as Dr. Sport, penned his final column in the Vancouver Sun this week after 17 years as a weekly contributor. He previously covered hockey, baseball and special events for the paper, in addition to being a regular broadcast commentator on local radio and television stations, including CKLG-FM, CKWX-AM 1130, CJAZ-FM, CKKS-FM and CJJR-FM/CKBD. In 1968, Douglas became the first public relations director for the Vancouver Canucks and was assistant to the GM from 1970 to ‘77. Douglas was inducted into the B.C Sports Hall of Fame in the media category in 2010. (Broadcast Dialogue)
