Mr. Fly: was there any mention of a Start Date? Either for the Sports format or the Morning Show?

The Morning Show starts September 4, so I assume that will be the launch day for the station as well.

Cringe inducing. I could only watch about half of the video. Rogers isn't a broadcaster. They never have been and they never will be. It's just not in their DNA. Figuring out new ways to screw you on cel phone, cable and internet is what they do best. They are going to take a perfectly good AM station and turn it into corporate Canuck house radio. Outside of play-by-play broadcasts 1040 will wipe the floor with them. Watching this video is proof that Vancouver is not a major market. Oh and BT...when you've got a single shot of someone how about you push in a little so we don't have to see slivers of the other couch potatoes on either side of the frame. Amateurs.

Not sure if I would be that harsh, a lot goes with the radio rights to an NHL team from team interviews, management contacts, after game shows etc etc. You could see it start when at the draft TSN1040 didnt have the rights to the live feed and were left with hosts reporting what was happening, sounded kind of empty and that is what will deteriorate the two TSN stations, it will be interesting to see how the imminent haircuts will affect things. If you look at 1040's current ratings, a 50% haircut would be devastating but realistic.

Don't know if that's true. 650 will have a lot of play-by-play that the sports listening audience wants. God knows Vancouver loves to jump on the Blue Jays bandwagon.

The two were already a point a part at the last book; 650 will trend up a bit with the Canucks, not much is going to be different.

How much will Rogers lose in all this.

Cost of the Canucks, cost of starting a talk station, likely some high salaries

Seems exorbitant

Could cut into the TV side of things locally (and it's already happened with Rogers overpaying for the rights to Hockey Night in Canada), so expect to see more Cancon filler and Vice documentaries over at CKVU (which, along with OMNI BC, could get run into the ground thanks to Rogers' lousy business decisions).

Steve Darling is reading sports on News1130 this morning, under the regular Sportsnet Radio branding used on News1130. No mention of Rick Dhaliwal, the usual reader in the morning slot.

Rick tweeted today that he's on vacation. Stand down speculation.

Also tweeted a photo of Darling and Dhaliwal together in the "sports centre". And he, Dhaliwal, mentioned that the room was full of other people moving from 1040 to Sportsnet 650.

And then Karin Larsen filed a story on CBC locally Aug 21 that with Sportsnet 650 we'll have two all-sports radio stations.

Really... I guess CFTE/1410 doesn't, um, rate a mention.

I have no qualms with Randip or Sat. They have cut their teeth in this industry.

Jawn Jang just wreaks of a diversity move, trying to capture the Asian market. Feel bad for the people who have busted their asses as ops and producers that aren't being given a chance.
