Lions on TSN 1040 until at least 2022

Postby jon » Thu Jan 18, 2018 9:10 am

TSN 1040 (CKST-AM) Vancouver will remain the official radio broadcaster of the BC Lions with a new deal that extends the partnership through to 2022. Coverage of the coming season will kick off live from training camp in Kamloops on May 20. The 2018 broadcast team will include play-by-play commentator Bob ‘the Moj’ Marjanovich, alongside analyst and former Lions quarterback Giulio Caravatta. Contributing insight and analysis will be CFL Insiders Farhan Lalji, Dave Naylor and Glen Suitor.

Probably a relief for 1040, if they had lost the Lions it would have been disastrous. Not sure when the Whitecaps come up for renewal but they need them as well. When you tune in and hear them doing Giants play by play you know how bad losing the Canucks was; as bad as the Canucks are this year they still are the major sports draw in the city. As for 650 they probably should go after the Whitecaps as they need a local team that plays in the offseason for the Canucks.

Pretty sure the Giants have been on TSN for a few years now, so not sure that's due to losing the Canucks. Altough I guess the Giants used to be on the 1410 station. As for 650, it's great they have the Canucks. But that's about all they have right now. It's going to be a tough uphill climb for them, even with the Canucks

Lions aren't the draw that you'd think.

CFL football in general could be an endangered sport. There is room for doubt that the league can survive two class action suits over the concussion issues that have already seen the NFL pay $1 billion+ in settlements.

As for radio, when was the last time you heard someone listening to the Canucks, or the Lions, on a car radio?

I think the Canucks will always have a decent draw on the dial until the people born in the early to mid 1980s die.
