Jon McComb alluded today to turning 65. That's a chronological milestone to be sure, but it's also a milestone for on-air personnel. Particularly so in recent years when we've seen many a purge at Vancouver radio stations.
Not only is McComb still on air but his show also remains highly rated and vital. Consider the role that the program played in the recent roll-back of the Metro Van salaries and retirement allowances that local politicians had voted themselves.
Interestingly, McComb had an indirect role in raising the profile of BC premier John Horgan. Years back, McComb ran a weekly "Fight-back Friday" segment in his afternoon slot and a frequent guest was Horgan, who always spoke about the then-exorbitant price of gasoline.
