A YOUTube Look at Vintage Radio Equipment

Postby Tape Splicer » Fri Nov 04, 2011 5:06 pm

While snooping around YouTube I came across some videos lovingly put together by individuals who love their old broadcast equipment. I did enjoy seeing some of the equipment that was at cjvb when I was there.

The first video is a nostalgic look at the venerable cart machine.

This video shows a wire recorder playing a WW2 broadcast from Germany

I'll add to this list of YouTube videos this one that looks at some mic's that are the work horses of the industry.

I hope that these images spark memories of where you worked ... the people mostly, but also the locations and work environment - they did for me.

Thanks for these, I particularly enjoyed the one on preserving and restoring old radio studio consoles ( even if I didn't see even one old MCCurdy in the bunch).

NS I think that that was the final item in the first group of links above. It is interesting to see how equipment is being recycled and not added to the land fill. There is a McCurdy board in one of the videos (the third link down)... It looks like the one that was in CJVB's control "A"... which came out of CJOR's control room.

Here is an interesting place to look for images and articles related to radio - the site is "Western Historic radio Museum" featuring "vintage radio equipment and memorabilia 1909 - 1950".
