Many of you at one time or another in your life likely tuned in The Big 89 ... WLS from Chicago.

I just found the WLS 25th Anniversary video from 1985 on You Tube ...

WLS AM 890 radio celebrates its 25th anniversary of playing rock and roll with this retrospective TV show that aired on Channel 7 WLS TV Chicago in 1985. Most of the disc jockeys of the past
(and some of the present at the time) appear on this program. The program is hosted by the late super jock Larry Lujack

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

As well as being a great station to do homework to growing up in Burnaby (despite the "slop" from CJVI), WLS was also one of the easiest to get distant stations here in Edmonton until CHQT moved from 1110 to 880 in the 1980s.

And, as long as you weren't too close to New York City, and WCBS-880, WLS really was a station that was easily heard across the U.S. and Canada in the 1960s at night.

While I totally agree that John Rook really revolutionized the station in 1967 when he became Program Director -- who can forget those jingles? -- they were always a great listen before that, all the way back to the first Top 40 song they spun in late 1960.
