Some time ago, I posted the list of programmes for the first day of CKWX at viewtopic.php?t=656
Its forerunner started in Nanaimo on April 1, 1923.
The Vancouver library has the Nanaimo Free Press for that year on microfilm, so I dutifully checked the reel last night.
I could find absolutely nothing about a radio station. I looked for several days before and after and there was nothing. This really strikes me as unusual. You'd think in a small place like Nanaimo, which put stories about car accidents in Vancouver on the front page, there would have been something printed, even about an experimental broadcast.
I did find a box ad for Sparks automotive electrical company, so the Freep didn't have anything against Sparks Holstead.
So, my question—was April 1 the day Sparks got the license or the day the station signed on?
