Montreal Radio from the late 1940's

Just wondering...if there is anyone old enough out there that lived in Montreal in the late 1940's, early 50's. I remember a character playing the role of Uncle Troy, sponsored by Troy Cleaners. perhaps on CKVL. I never heard anything about this announcer. At the same time, on CFCF morning news, there was a "weatherman", Frank Edwards (?), sponsored by Pom.

Speaking of those years, does anybody have a copy of the promo booklet put out by CFCF about 1949-1950, concerning their program schedule upon moving to their new studios on Cote Des Neiges. I asked Gord Sinclair, ( the son) about it about a year before he died, but he couldn't remember it. It was then that I discovered that Charlie McCarthy was a dummy, and not a real person, by seeing the promo booklet. Radio was wonderful, wasn't it?

...and how to I put my location on the site...MONTREAL...?

Yes, I remember Montreal radio in the late 40's and on through for almost 30 years. I spent all that time with CJAD, starting as a control room operator and moving through Production Supervisor, Advertising & Promotion Director and Assistant Manager. I was a board member of the international Broadcast Promotion Association and, as such, chaired seminars on radio promotion and advertising. Left Montreal in late 70's to take on new role as Director of Communication for the national CBC Radio networks.

"Uncle Troy was, indeed, on CKVL. He was credited with being the one who, having just finished taping his kids' show, and assuming the mike was off, supposedly was heard to say something like "That ought to hold the little b******s!"

Toy Truck: Further to my note yesterday re Montreal radio, you were wondering about "Uncle Troy". To the best of my memory, the character was played by Corey Thomson, who co-owned the station (CKVL) with Jack Tietolman.

Thanks for your input and info re Uncle Troy. Now, what about The Pom,(not PORN) weather man, Frank Edwards, on CFCF in the early 50's ? If you were at CJAD on Mountain, then you must remember my store, BUYWELL, next to Ogilvy's on St. Catharine Street.
