Lloyd Finlayson

Postby cart_machine » Mon Oct 22, 2012 4:44 pm

Unless I've missed it, I haven't seen anything on the board about the passing of Lloyd Finlayson, formerly of CKNW/CFMI and CKO. He had been placed in a hospice in the Vancouver area and died Sunday the 21st.

Lloyd was a kind man who never seemed ruffled by anything.

Sorry to hear of Lloyd's passing. He also worked at CKWX... which is where we met. My condolences to his family. Enjoy every day folks... They're often gone way too soon.

Thanks for posting this cArtie. The last time I talked to Lloyd was just before an RPM luncheon a few years ago. He had planned to attend, but didn't make it for some health reason or another.

Condolences to his wife Sharon, daughter Leah and son Jordan.

In 1976 Lloyd left NW/CFMI to be PD/Morning Man at CKPG in Prince George. He stayed there for a few years and then returned to the coast where he spent some time at CJJC before he went to CKO.
I still have a working CKO wall clock that Lloyd gave me in 1983. After CKO, he was selling cars at Dueck on Marine for a few years in the 1990's and then went to Sentes GM in Penticton.

Another one gone way too soon..

Here's a pic of Lloyd at CFGP in Grande Prairie, probably his first on-air job ....

Have they announced when and where a service will be held?

I haven't heard anything yet. Once I hear something, I'll post it (or maybe cArtie will if he hears before I do).

None and no disrespect intended. Just a caution to those thinking of lighting up for the first time.

So sad to hear of Lloyd's passing.

What a beautiful spirit he had including a warm smile on every occassion.

From working together at CJJC to our monthly visits at CKO, Lloyd always had time for a wee laugh over how our lives had taken different directions.

He was a true friend in every respect.
During lunch, "a large Pepsi, please."

Not only a fabulous broadcaster, but one Helluva' car salesman too. His had a very calming effect with uptight buyers. I recall several occassions he acheived top honors for Sales of Month.

Something also tells me he worked in Calgary for a short stint at car sales however, I am not 100% positive.

Rest in Peace, my friend.

Regards,

Rob

Sorry to hear of the passing of Lloyd. We had tried to track him down over the years but failed.

I worked with him briefly. He made a good impression. Wish I had known him better.

But....that was a long long time ago.

Not sure if Lloyd worked at Okanagan Radio for a spell as well. I could be mixing up ORL and FVB. I do remember him as a dedicated and reliable journeyman broadcaster.
