Inquiry: Nora (Lugrin) Shaw & "Marston of the Mounties"

Postby lindseyb » Sun Apr 12, 2015 4:33 pm

Hello there!

I am a Research Assistant for the Canada's Early Women Writers project (Simon Fraser University). I am looking for information about Nora (Lugrin) Shaw, who, as I understand it, wrote the script for "Marston of the Mounties" in the 1920s. Based on some of the other posts, I've discerned that "Marston" aired on CKCD Vancouver. Any information at all about the show and/or about Nora would be most welcome. For instance, I would love to know if Nora wrote for any other programs. So far, my only other source is this site: http://www.uvic.ca/givingtouvic/donorbio/s/n_w_shaw.php

Best,
Lindsey

Since CKCD was owned by the Province, you won't find any mention in the Vancouver Sun. My normal source for the regional papers is down right now, so I don't know what is there, though I have found some mentions of CKCD programming there in the past.

There are some faded memories (they got Nora's name wrong) of the program here:

As I said in Facebook, your best bet is finding some Vancouver Province collection from the era and see what you can find.

Thank you once again for your help! I think a trip to the Burnaby Public Library is in order. And thank you for the link-- it's too bad that they got her name wrong, but at least this book provides some important context.
