The obituary has now been published:
Rochelle van Halm
June 5, 1957 - February 23, 2016
Rochelle left us on a quiet Tuesday evening, just a week after snorkelling in Haiti and five and a half years of living with ovarian cancer. That cruise with her kids was her goal and her swan song. She wasn't ready to go but she was prepared, and she smoothed her own and our way through with optimism, determination, gusto, and the huge love that is the heart of her legacy.
Always combining her need to understand the world, tell stories, and make a difference, she shared the experiences of her later life through her Cancer Queen blog, helped raise more than $100,000 for cancer research through the Underwear Affair and the Walk For Hope, served on the boards of two stratas and the Vancouver Outdoor Club for Women, and made sure that those who loved her had everything she could give them to be ready for her departure.
Rochelle is survived by her children, Baxter and Kate, her "person", Laurence, her sisters Renee and Ramy, and the many other family and friends who miss her terribly.
Join us in a celebration of Rochelle's life on April 3rd, 2016 from 2pm-4pm at the Creekside Community Centre, 1 Athletes Way, Vancouver. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Ovarian Cancer Canada.
