Former NEWSTALK 1010 host Wally Crouter has passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 92.

Crouter died this morning at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.

Walter "Wally" Crouter was born August 5, 1923, in Lindsay, Ontario.

Crouter joined NEWSTALK 1010 when it was known as CFRB on November 1, 1946 -- a career which would eventually span half a century, becoming the station's most famous broadcaster and top-rated morning host.

He entered the broadcasting world at CHEX in Peterborough after serving with the Canadian Army in World War II. Crouter retired from broadcasting on November 1, 1996 -- exactly 50 years to the day of his start with CFRB.

Following his retirement, Crouter was inducted into the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame, known as Canada's longest serving radio morning man.
