Jim Howe passes away

Postby Russ_Byth » Fri May 06, 2016 3:07 pm

Not a name familiar to a lot of people but many of us got to know Jim through his Howe Sound work. I first met him when he handled the audio for the driver interviews at the Molson Indy Races. A very friendly gentleman who always got the job done with a smile. Rest In Peace.

From the Province:
James Carl (Jim) Howe 1930 - 2016 It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle & friend on April 13th, 2016.

Jim was born on June 18th, 1930 in Port Hammond, BC to mother Isabel and father Nelson. As one of seven brothers, his recollection of their childhood years spent playing practical jokes on one another (& unexpecting neighbours!) would produce great fits of laughter from whomever was lucky enough to hear the stories. Not surprisingly, a jovial spirit & witty sense of humour would remain with Jim his entire life. -

A sad day indeed. I had known Jim for a very long time, as he used to provide the audio services at many of the political luncheon speeches that those of us then working the Vancouver radio News Beat had regularly covered, sometimes as many as two and three times a week in those days, on what we had often referred to as the "rubber chicken circuit".
More than a few of us, in both radio and TV, have plugged our tape decks and cameras into Jim Howe's audio boards over the years for the best broadcast quality sound at news events right across this city.
Jim Howe was a really sweet guy who, until fairly recently, had been providing the sound system at Red Robinson's semi-annual radio lunches at the White Spot on West Georgia.
Rest in Peace Jim... You'll be sorely missed.
