Stories and info about those no longer involved in the industry

Sorry to hear that former CKNW/CJOR newsguy Arnie Epp has suffered a heart attack in the past few days. Arnie will undergo quadruple bypass surgery this coming week.

All the best and a speedy recovery Arnie.

Arnie has to be one of the greatest newsmen ever to come out of the White Spot restaurant chain. And never one to burn his sources - he has yet to share the recipe for Triple O sauce.

Get well soon, Arnie.

NW could use someone like Arnie now.

First met Arnie in the Grosvenor Hotel days.

Best wishes.

Arnie was a great newsie and a swell guy.

Many memories of Arnie while CKVN was steaming towards the rocks, and I also believe Arnold spent some time at CJCI in Prince George.

Hang in there and get better, Arnie.

Nothing specific on Arnie, except for the fact the operation is supposedly ?this week? in Surrey Memorial.
Comparing notes on others who?ve had multi-valve grinds ? there?s a good chance, if he has the plumbing done this week, he?ll be home by the end of next. It?s usually a week to ten days. They don?t keep ?em in long, nowadays. Another ?positive?: If he?s having it done at SMH ? not at RCH ? it?s not ranked as a ?serious job.? RCH is the cardiac referral centre for the complicated cases. Surrey does your routine jobs.
Bottom line - If the timetable I have is correct, there?s every chance we could see him on Barker?s back deck ? if he feels up to it ? come late August.

Received an e-mail from Jason Howe (who is now doing PR for Surrey Memorial Hospital) since being canned in one of the latest CORUS bloodbaths to say that Arnie is being kept at SMH until they can schedule his operation at either VGH, St. Paul?s or RCH. They?re still aiming for ASAP (although this latest news tends to re-confirm that it?s not a life-threatening situation.

this is a 'special news bulletin' from the anchor desk of the ex-NW newsmen/persons and their world wide investigative team

Surgery is Wednesday at VGH - he is being prepped.

We all wish the 'Epp' a good grind and a few new valves.

Hopefully he will sip on a pina colada on the 26th

Arnie is now listed as ?stable.? Not sure when he?ll be moved out of ICU, but he?s on the mend.

Gentlemen:

I have just spoken ? via the electric telephone ? with a Mr. A. Epp, now back in his own little room at Vancouver Hospital and he sounds quite alert, alive and well on the way to recovery.

T?was a quad bypass job, which started at 1:30 last Wednesday afternoon, from which the patient awoke at 4:30 the following morning.

He says he had no idea he?d be this weak. But he sounds strong and as alert as ever. WB has spoken to him, Jason Howe has been in to see him. I mentioned the fact that JCB, Frosty, McKitrick, Viv (Zanocco) and Yvonne, among others, had all expressed an interest in his well-being and he was most appreciative. No, he did not have any objection to anyone spreading the word of his latest encounter with the medical system.

He thinks he could be going home in a few days (it?s normally about a ten-day stay for these kinds of operations) but he somehow doubts he will be on Barker?s back deck come the end of the month.

All in all, it appears everything went well. But he?ll be recuperating for a while.

(edited for brevity)

There's a Starbucks in the wilds of Surrey, B.C. that my pal Mike Rheault - 1. former keyboard player for The Burton Cummings Band
2. former co-owner of Wave Productions 3. current owner of Mikro Tunes - frequent once or twice a month.
One day Arnie Epp came over to our outside table and introduced himself. I knew the name but not the person.
Subsequently, the three of us have talked together at the coffee shop a coupla' times
and as John Sykes mentioned - Arnie turned out to be "one of the nicest guys".
Mike and I will raise a java to Mr. Epps tomorrow and wish him speedy and full recovery.

For Pete's sake, look at the date on the thread. It was started 9 years ago! I hope he has recovered by now.

Guyz (includes everyone)
I guess RadioWest, in it's infinite intelligence, realized that the posted Arnie Epp
meanderings I'd left yesterday showed me to (once again) not understand
the workings of all of this. I think the porky post I posted - is pulled.

I thought Arnie Epp had had a heart situation in the last six days . . .
When I saw Arnie today and said, "Wha'thaHell are you doing out of
the hospital?" - he informed me that that was many years ago.
Oh well, I got to proclaim that, even though I'd only got to know
the voice of news (Arnie) recently, he was a great guy.
I still felt like a fekkin' idjut. But, when you consider, I've felt like
a phuckin' idiot at least 26 times already this year (and it ain't even May
yet) . . it was par for the course.
Great to see the Eppster today - alive, well, holding a java and in
better-than-good spirits.

Thanks for the update Bill. I had the pleasure or working with Arnie at NW back in the 70s and 80s. Always a good guy and glad to hear he's doing well.
