Who is he?

I'd appreciate help identifying this DJ. Here is what I know:
- CHED Edmonton
- February 1963
- it is 7:40 p.m. on a weekday
- on-air control room
- so this is the early evening DJ
- the photographer remembers that he had a very deep voice (i.e. - more than usual for the time)

Wow! White shirt and tie for the evening shift.

Interesting board!
Looks like two mono Northern Electric consoles side by side with remote controls for three Ampex 350/351 to the jock's right.
The mic is either a Western Electric or Altec 639A or B, commonly called the "birdcage."
Looks like an early "Empire" arm on what might be a 16" RCA transcription turntable.
I see some carts but no cart machines.
And yeah, white shirts and ties were pretty standard through the sixties.

Also note those nifty asbestos acoustical tiles on the wall.

from Don Kay

"That's Gary Walsh. He went to CHED around 1961 or '62 from CJNR in Blind River.

He did the All-Nite show. Announcers did 6 days a week back then, so he did the odd evening shift. When Keith (James) wanted him to move to mid-day, Gary wanted a whole bunch more money, or he told them he wasn't doin' it! ......so, they let him go!

He left CHED in 1964 and returned to his home town of Thunder Bay."
