The search for Dad

Postby chrm24 » Sat May 14, 2011 9:42 am

I am hoping that someone here will be able to help me in the search for my Dad. I haven't seen or heard from him in 31 years. His name is Michael P. Murphy and he was formally a morning man at CKOV-AM in Kelowna

Here is a link to my blog post that includes further details and pictures: http://bit.ly/kijDrV

If anyone can help with suggestions or tips on his whereabouts, please email me at: rm24@shaw.ca.

Thanks in advance!

I really wish you the best of luck.
Do you know when he worked at OV? There are many people on this board who have spent time in the Okanagan.
(OK, just looked at your blog... it was the 70's)

He worked there during the early 70's -- 71-75 -- Thanks for the kind words!

In an unexpected twist, it appears my Dad worked for CFMQ-FM in Regina (now CHMX-FM) in the late 70's.

I have posted the updated information on my blog: http://bit.ly/lXXbbo

If anyone worked at CFMQ-FM in the late 70's-early 80's and can shed some light on my Dad's time there, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,

Rob

There is a Mike Murphy listed in Broadcasting Yearbook at CKWX Vancouver, as Promotions Manager in 1985.

Try this Google search for a lot more leads in Broadcasting Yearbooks:
"Mike Murphy" site:davidgleason.com

Mike Murphy is a pretty common name in Newfoundland, so it may not be the same person, but a Mike Murphy is Station Manager of VOCM and the former CJON in St. John's:

I wanted to thank all of those that read this forum and took the time to reach out and respond. My search for information about my Dad continues but I now know a lot more than I did when I started. The radio community in Canada is full of terrific people and for that I am grateful!

Thanks,

Rob Murphy
