I just got word that Shane of KGA (1968 Top 40) fame is alive and well and visiting RadioWest.ca from time to time.

I've long wanted to track him down, so I just finished writing him. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

As a backgrounder: Shane came to KGA from KPUG Bellingham, where he worked with KJR's Norm Gregory, and was there for KGA's one year of Top 40 glory, from January 1968 to early 1969. Shane did evenings, so was the one that those of us outside the ground wave coverage area listened to.

KGA was a 1-B Clear Channel on 1510 KHz in Spokane with 50KW. A new transmitter site built in 1968 gave them a blowtorch signal at night that you could hear from San Diego to the Northern reaches of B.C. and most (all?) of the Prairies. The famous (early R&B) WLAC in Nashville was the other 50KW night time signal on the frequency in those days.
