Calling all CFUN Staff - About time for a get together?

Postby Tom Jeffries » Mon May 05, 2014 6:04 pm

Rich Elwood and I have been talking about how nice it would be to have a get together of CFUN staff, from the era 1972 -1988, or so.
Dinner at the Keg? Lunch? Ideas?
If you are a CFUN type - let me know if you are interested and we shall get it together...this Fall.

Just drop me a private note.

Rich and I agree, that the people at 1900 West Fourth were a special group and we miss a lot of smiling faces.News, (Hi Kathy, JJ, David Tait, Dave Palmer)..... Sales, Copy, Production (hello Robin and Curtis) Music (Clara and Juice) even our esteemed PD, Neil Gallagher, and our sales guys like Barry O and Rob Collins and crew, all would be welcomed. Accounting, front office. It doesn’t matter, we were all part of something special that Rich and I feel is going to slip away if we don’t get together.

Your thoughts and attendance are most appreciated.

I worked with the nicest and most talented people on the Planet and frankly we miss the fun.

Are you in?

This note has been up for a month and over 200 people viewed it and no one seems interested.

That’s cool with me. So, no reunion.

After all, looking back is not everyone’s cup of tea. I wonder if it also reflects the number of people that have ‘moved on’.

Truth is, in the case of this iconic AM legend, most of the players are pretty much cast to the far corners.
Bob McGee and John Rode in Toronto, Fred Latremouille in PEI, Peter Benson in Albuquerque, Russ Tyson in Winnipeg, Lee Murray in Montreal, Russ McLoud somewhere, but not here. Bob Merchant's whereabouts also unknown ( at least to me).
Myself, Jack Casey, in Port Ludlow on the Puget Sound.
Jim Hault and Dave McCormick both in degrees of poor health.
Tom Lucas nearby of course, but history shows he keeps a low profile off the air and it seems reunions aren't his thing.
I won't dwell on the sad realities of those who will never be with us again.
So with Red and maybe TDM, it would be a half-dozen or so if we ever arranged it.

You are right, of course.

Wishful thinking.

I think Bob Merchant was selling Real estate in the Valley for a while.

Russ McCloud.....I have lost track of. Russ...?

John Rode ( a genius and a man I should have mentioned in my yak on CFUN).

He was a wunderkind and no one ever sounded like him.

Heck, we even had a Boston Legend - Major Tom Lewis on CKVN for a while.

What an era.

Yeah, I miss it.

Tom

Great idea, but as Neumann pointed out, the troops are now scattered across Canada and the USA. A full blown station reunion on a weekend might work, but it is an awful lot of work.

Also, hate to point this out, most from the era are now in their 60s or early 70s. Cash for travel might not be easy for many.

At least there are the RPM and RW lunches and get togethers.

Ross nailed it.

It was a nice dream, though.

Hi Tom and all Postees,

I've been travelling with my Whose Live Anyway show and didn't see your post until now. Wow, 200 views and no signups? That says a lot.

Maybe the old listeners will go with us instead?

There's the concept - AM Jocks from the 60's and 70's at CFUN - LG and the hippies from CFOX do a charity luncheon and invite former listeners (or basically those who listen to CISL) for an afternoon lunch of music, memories and medical updates. Get Metamusil to sponsor it? Who has time to organize it though......Mr. Jeffries??

Jeffries understands the lack of interest.
If you're so gung-ho Elwood, why don't you organize it.

BTW, I hope your standup material is more current than metamucil. Or maybe you could join Rich Little who's still doing Nixon and Burns.

I think that cheap shot at Rich Elwood was uncalled for.

He is one of the best people I ever worked with as a performer and as a person.

Save your vitriol for your poor Family - there is no place for that here.

Hey Howaboutthat,

How about this....if you're joking with me...try harder you're not funny. If you're seriously being critical, look me up. I'm easy to find.

Thanks Tom...I guess the CFUN Reunion is a no go.

Who is Rich Little by the way?

I've been busy with another project recently, and haven't checked in for awhile.

A CFUN reunion would have been a real hoot, and what a wonderful sentiment. I would have delighted in seeing the old group again, but as Neuman indicated, a lot of us are now scattered to the winds.

It was a very good place to work ... it all came together at 1900 W 4th .... the era, the people, and the audience.

Cheers folks, and Hag, old buddy, old pal .... a great idea.
