Boom's Turntable Tuesday

Lots of talk over the last few years of Boom coming to Western Canada.

With that possibility in mind, this occasional station feature caught my eye:
Turntable Tuesday

Tuesday June 10th from 6a – 9p it’s Turntable Tuesday at boom 973. It’s your chance to play your favorite songs from your favorite albums (and the story that goes with them) on boom! Book your time below and tell us what you’ve got on vinyl from the 70s 80s 90s. If you don’t bring it, we can’t spin it – so sign up now!

Sound familiar? Born and bred in the Pacific Northwest, Bobby Rich used to do a weekly "Turkey Hour" on KFMB-AM in San Diego. Despite the name, most of the songs really were a lot of fun to hear. And he did rely on quite a number of Pacific Northwest hits that didn't do well in the rest of the U.S.

The familiar part, to me, anyway, is that he asked listeners to bring their old 45s and Bobby would play them on the air. He preferred you bring them without record sleeves/covers, loose, in a paper bag.

That, of course, wasn't an original idea, as Lan Roberts did that on KOL Seattle on Hallowe'en 1969 for his Garbage Record Festival. Bobby may even have heard him.

All of which is to say that Turntable Tuesday could be a lot of fun if Boom ever comes to "A City Near You".

As for Toronto's Boom, Stu Jeffries does Mornings. Yes, the same Stu from CKLG and K-97.
