Campus and community radio exists thanks to the commitment and participation of diverse community members. To emphasize this essential role and highlight the importance of youth in this media, the CRFC has decided to put into effect a pilot program called Youth on Air! This program will offer youth a unique radio experience by means of training grants.

“We are constantly searching for ways to stimulate the sector and youth represents the future of community radio. With the program Youth on Air!, we hope to turn their interests into passions,” says CRFC's President Roger Ouellette.

Youth on Air! is geared towards campus and community radios interested in working with young Canadians seeking for training, education, and mentorship opportunities. The goal of the program is to foster radio talent and, consequently, strengthen stations’ capacities and productivity. Stations will be able to apply for funding up to a maximum of $10,000.

Youth on Air! is a continuation of the first two programs previously offered by the CRFC: the Radio Talent Development Program and the Youth Internship Program. “Several stations have indicated their interest in continuing to offer internships. We have decided to listen to them by proposing a simplified program where each station will have the freedom to develop projects that meet their needs,” adds Jean Malavoy, CRFC’s Executive Director.

Stations are invited to read the program's guidelines before completing the application form. Stations have until March 31, 2015 to submit their funding application.

The funding for Youth on Air! is provided by Canada’s private radio broadcasters through their Canadian Content Development (CCD) contributions, a funding mechanism established by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). These contributions play an important part in the success of the Canadian radio broadcasting system’s community sector.
