Songs that maybe shouldn't play back to back

Postby radiofan » Tue Oct 13, 2015 6:39 pm

Every now and then you hear a pair of songs that really shouldn't be played back to back, or songs that shouldn't be played on certain occasions.

This afternoon on Sirius/XM 60's on 6 they played Dion's "Abraham, Martin and John" and it was followed by Cher's 1966 hit "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)".

Ahhh, the joys of computer generated music lists!

After hearing this, I recalled the night John Lennon was murdered and one of the first Beatle songs CFUN played in it's tribute to John was "Happiness Is A Warm Gun".
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

wasn't it the BCIT campus station that broke in to announce the Lennon shooting and rolled back into regular programming playing "Killing Me Softly With His Song" by Roberta Flack?

Slightly extending the topic, here are two songs, both CanCon, that were both on the Top 40 charts at the same time, in both the U.S. and Canada, yet no one ever seemed to play them back to back. Not that they should have, but I could see it being confusing:
  1. "When I Die" - Motherlode
  2. "And When I Die" - Blood Sweat & Tears

Can't remember at which station I was working at the time but I almost drove off the road when I heard the announcement that the current Pope had just died and the song following the bulletin was "I dreamed I was there in teenage heaven."
