Happy 7th Birthday RadioWest.ca

Postby radiofan » Mon May 06, 2013 3:40 pm

In May of 2006 RadioWest.ca was launched. We're moving into year number 8 with some changes to the site.

Yup, the old way was and is better.

The Word Press experiment for the past 10 months had some plusses and a whole lot of minuses. The biggest downside of it was the amount of resources it used and at times (sometimes quite frequently)
it slowed the entire site down to a crawl or total stall.

The remedy was an easy choice.

Move back to the message board format. And that is what we've done. Starting today, the daily features (Entertainment, Broadcast and Chart History, Can-Con 45 of The Day and Jingle of The Day) now
appear in the top area of the forum (just below this message).

In the next few weeks, regular postings of airchecks and other radio station memories will appear.

As always, your comments and suggestions are welcome.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Happy Birthday radiowest.ca - my fave broadcast site. The site run by people who care about the industry/history and not chem-trails.

I appreciated the experiment and think there is always a different way of doing it. I really like wordpress blogs and will be starting a new one soon for business purposes. Didn't know about resource problems - hope that doesn't affect me.

The familiar old look is great to see RF - keep it up!! And how about a call soon - I miss our chats.

As has often been heard: sometimes good ideas need to fail.

Thanks to all behind The Great Experiment for all their hard and good-intentioned work ... but happy to see 'the good old ways' again.

It hasn't been mentioned yet, but all CRTC actions will be posted daily on the RWCRN Facebook page, along with industry news, scans, market profiles, etc. Only the applications/decisions and radio related news of significance will be covered in the Radio West Forum.

To get your full fix of everything radio related across the country check out the Facebook page every now and then:

My my how time flies. Hard to believe that it was 7 years ago that we all met at a get together at Jimmy Mac's Pub in Langley and Radiofan unveiled this site (even Sykes was at that one as I recall).

Has it actually been seven years passed so quickly?
Time has become somewhat like riding in a car down a country road.
At the beginning of my journey, time passed like the spaces between the telephone poles.
At the middle of my life, it went by like the posts on the range fence along the roadside.
Now, it's passing before my eyes like ties on the paralleled railroad track.

I am so proud to be a member of this group of brothers and sisters.

Congrats, Ted! Does this mean it's also time to grow up? No? Good.

Too late to grow up now. I never even has aspirations to be the Village Idiot, Class Clown was OK with me for my 6 years in grade 5!

I was going to make a joke about Smoking Stunting Your Growth. Second thought told me that Laughing All the Way to the Bank might be closer to the truth.

It was Lujack who coined the famous remark: "When I was a kid, I dreamed of becoming a radio DJ when I grew up, but then I found out, you can't do both".

Ironic, or perhaps prophetic, words about a Top 40 DJ who quickly evolved, in Chicago, into perhaps the biggest "mature audience appeal" DJ who ever lived. With his cynicism/realism viewpoint.
