Slings & Arrows - Who Needs 'Em?

Postby Glen Livingstone » Fri Jul 14, 2006 10:09 am

Speaking strictly for myself, I believe that the time has come to adopt a new kinder, gentler policy when it comes to comments on this site regarding another radio board.

If the operators of that site wish to slag us, "out" us, or ban us, that's their perogative.

Not much we can do about it except to ask, why?

I suppose it's because they regard RadioWest as some sort of threat to them - but we sure don't see it that way.

Cutting and pasting? Not really our thing.

And if you want the latest headlines from Fox or CNN, guess what?

Those organizations have their own websites and anyone can check 'em out anytime they want by going to them directly.

We're interested in opinions - both pro and con - about the industry and where it is headed.

What we're trying for over here is a balanced mix of radio information; both old and new.

With excellent input from Victoria Radio and Top Dog focussing on the history of B.C. broadcasting, Dan Sys's frequent updates on CRTC and FCC decisions, PMC's always helpful computer advice column, and sports commentary from John Sykes - not to mention the mountain of airchecks and memorabilia that Radiofan is constantly posting - we think we have things pretty well covered.

Our list of members continues to grow, and we thank all of the people who have signed up and contributed to date.

RadioWest - no censorship, no spelling corrections, no hassle.

Thanks for coming along for the ride!

Sorry Biff, as you hadn't posted for awhile, you kind of slipped under my radar.

I hang my head in shame over this grievous oversight.

Can you ever forgive me?

It's all good. Sorry for not posting more, but at least I'm not slacking as bad as Roger and Buzz.

Uh, oh. I corrected RF's spelling in another thread. Does this mean I'm sentenced to a life of listening to Top Dog's old stories of fuzzy nights at the Media Club?

Well cArtie .. we'll have to deal out some punishment for that ... perhaps we'll change your nic to Aristocart or Fidelipac ... just a few thoughts.

No, just your nights.

I'm horrible with faces and it's getting worse as I get older. I don't recognise them. I ran into someone the other day who said "I worked with you" (only a couple of years ago) and I didn't have any idea who it was. Oddly, I recognise where they're standing.

This guessing game is open to anyone but it might be a bit hard for the
blind.

Do you want the picture bigger?

where is the room?

The kid on the right is about 16 - is that a good clue?

Don't know who the reporters are but I can tell you the young lad ended up marrying (and then divorcing) Lady Sarah Ferguson.

I'll take a guess that the reporter in the middle of the photo is George Wilson of CBC fame. Think his last name was Wilson. Definitely his first name was George.
No idea about the guy with the impressive sun tan.

SB, Mr. Dog will confirm it, but George Wilson's a good guess, though I remember him a little thinner. Then again, I didn't spend a whole lot of time on the beat.

I thought the picture was taken in the 'new' Media Club, as it had a low ceiling and someone installed shutters and tacky wallpaper like that at one point, but I'll stand corrected. Certainly Randy Knight wouldn't have had 16-year-old guys in there.

Good thing. You'd have pictures of THAT, too. ;)

Well, that explains it. I've never met Frank. I wanted to hire him to do imaging but was embarrassed at what we were paying (either John Wilson or Al had told me to call him anyway) and couldn't get more money out of management. He was sort of retired with his dogs in Surrey at that time.

I'm trying to get my time-line right but if I remember, Larry Sell said he hired Frank at CKLG and Stu McAllister said Frank hired him.
