Happy New Year and a Happy Birthday to longtime Vanciouver and Victoria broadcaster Ron Robinson.

Have a great day and a great year Ron! It was good to see you at Red's RPM lunch in October.

Happy Happy, Ron! As mentioned in Today in Broadcast History, January 1st was a great day for CKWX, too. Obviously, I should have added your birthday to the list, as you were just so much a part of the station in the 1950s.
January 1st was a big day in history for CKWX Vancouver:

In 1940, Harold Carson moved to Vancouver from Calgary to take over the operation of CKWX; Sparks Holstead was still the station owner.

In 1954, the station began 24 hour broadcasting with an overnight program "Concert Under the Stars".

In 1958 at midnight, Red Robinson, Bill Davis and Bob McGavin began 100 hours of continuous broadcasting from the Pacific National Exhibition studio to celebrate British Columbia's Centennial year.

Thanks guys.

But I'd really rather you shushed up about it. At this stage every new ring on the tree is starting to choke bigtime!

However, it definitely beats the alternative .....

And a Happy New Year back at you.

Happy Birthday, Ron.

With a name like that, you should be deliriously content while gloating over your numerology.

Should we ever meet personally, would there be, like, a matter/anti-matter explosion that would wipe out the known universe?

Happy Birthday to one of the classiest guys in the world.

Ron won't remember, but, he was very kind to a keen UVic radio kid, a long time ago,and I have never had the chance to repay his kindess.

I hope my best wishes, along with some of the wonderful people here, l love and respect so much, brings you great happiness, Ron.

I'll wish Ron a Happy Birthday too!

(But I think it's kinda lazy just adding it to last year's thread!)

Hey this is very nice, to hear from so many friends .. even some I don't recognize by nickname ... on an occasion that is rapidly becoming an achievement, more than anything else. Thanks everybody for your good wishes.

Sorry I wasn't more prompt .. Sue & I are right now on Maui, hoping to see the sun today. Aloha!

What a cool way to grow old!

If you want to make it the great 8-0, I strongly suggest not driving "The Road to Hana". Unless it has changed, it has One Way blind corners with a cliff on either side of you, or occasionally the ocean. And 14 year old locals driving at freeway speeds coming at you.

Otherwise, Maui is a lovely place, with a dryer, slightly cooler climate than the rest of Hawaii that most Edmontonians find easier to adapt to. Only been once, with my father-in-law, who found his favourite piece of Hawaii, but is still happy here in Edmonton.
