Shuffling the media deck

Well it's all back to normal for my radio and television friends. After the summer break most are back on their normal shifts behind the mics or on camera.

Lots of changes over the past few months though, including:

The Edmonton Sun's Danny Hooper is off the CFCW morning show to concentrate on his fund raising business. Shifting from his Program Duties on K97 to replace Mr. Hooper is James "Gruff" ushnowski. Gruff's a country boy at heart, and adds this comment - |Growing up on the farm in Innisfree, Alberta I grew up listening and loving CFCW. So this a dream job come true to say the least. As much as I am proud of the being a part of K97...which I very much am...but I'm extremely excited about my new adventure." The job of directing Terry, Steve and Bill (and the rest of the radio station) is 'open.'

CFCW is part of Newcap Broadcasting which just jumped into the major leagues with a $112 million dollar purchase of some of the remnants of the $3.4 billion dollar Astral/Bell deal, picking up stations in Vancouver and Toronto. Also in the building the announcement of a new GM to replace the soon to be retired Randy Lemay is imminent.

Over at Corus Radios Fresh FM morning man Jonny Sullivan welcomes Dani Rohs into the chair formerly occupied by J'Lynn Nye. Dani shuffled over from The Bounce after most of the summer off.

In Television, CBC is 'ramping up' their news and information services too. Judy Piercy tells me "Edmonton Time" the new one-hour show launches Saturday October 12th at 6am and replays 11am Sunday and Monday. We also expanded our Sunday TV newscast to 30 minutes on Sunday September 1st."

CBC and CKUA are the only media properties that now operate in the quickly rebuilding downtown core and both are just steps away from the best concerts, plays, movies, festivals, and the new arena/entertainment complex while the rest of the media are in the burbs now!

Assuming the web sites are up to date, Rogers-owned City-TV and World-FM still share studio and office space on Jasper Avenue just West of 102nd Street .
