Although not statistically significant, my random poll of local friends, family and acquaintances are maybe not predicting, but certainly hoping for, Randy Kilburn as the one to handle the Newscasts that Bob Layton doesn't do in Morning Drive at CHED. Randy was contracted by Corus a few months ago to do Oilers reports on CHED, but has showed up, from time to time, as a CHED Newscaster.
As of 2011, here was his mini-bio:
Randy Kilburn - News/Sports CHED Edmonton; News & Sports Director CISN-FM Edmonton; News & Sports Director CIRK-FM Edmonton mid-1980s; Media Relations Officer Edmonton Police Service Edmonton late 1980s; Assistant Director of Communications Ministry of Learning Government of Alberta Edmonton; Media Relations Coordinator Capital Health Edmonton mid-1990s; Media Spokesperson City of Edmonton mid-2000s; Public Relations Manager Northlands Park Edmonton 2009-March 4, 2011. News Director CFCP-FM Courtenay, B.C. beginning March 7, 2011; News Director CIQC-FM Campbell River, B.C. beginning March 7, 2011; News Director CFPW-FM Powell River, B.C. beginning March 7, 2011; News Director CFNI Port Hardy, B.C. beginning March 7, 2011
Depending on whether she still likes to get up early in the morning (she has, in the distant past, done Morning Drive as both Host and News), Eileen Bell could also move to Mornings and Randy work Eileen's long 11am-6pm shift. Not that Eileen's day would be any shorter, as the Reporter part of the job would require her to arrive around 3:30 a.m., and still be around to do the 10:30 a.m. News.
To my ear, Kevin Robertson has been doing a decent job this week, covering the Newscasts opposite Bob Layton on CHED.
