The CRTC has just scheduled a Hearing in the Ottawa area for 21 October 2015. One of the applications being heard from Black Gold. They are back with a revised application for an FM station in Ponoka.

Everything else is the same, but the power is one-tenth what it was: 1000 watts. Even the same tower, 111 metres EHAAT.

Concept is to reduce coverage to areas where Lacombe, Wetaskiwin and Red Deer stations complained about competition.

Deadline for comments is September 10th.

Here is the report from Canadian Radio News (Dan Sys):
(CRTC) BLACKGOLD RECEIVES APPROVAL FOR A NEW COUNTRY STATION IN PONOKA

Blackgold Broadcasting got the go ahead today to launch a new Country station in Ponoka, Alberta on 89.7 with 1,000 watts (average and maximum ERP). Antenna height will be 111 metres (EHAAT) with a non-directional radiation pattern.

Blackgold had applied for a similar station on 89.7 with 10,000 watts in 2014. This was subsequently turned down by the CRTC citing that it could be financially detrimental to existing stations in Lacomb, Wetaskiwin, and Red Deer. This time the CRTC approved the application with the proposed reduction in power.

No license restrictions on marketing commercials into surrounding areas were deemed necessary because of the lower power. Only significant license condition was 40% CanCon.
