Fort McMurray: To 40,000 from 35 Watts

Postby jon » Tue Nov 18, 2014 10:11 am

CKOS-FM Fort McMurray was just granted an increase in power and antenna height, as a way to address its financial woes.

The CRTC is of the view that it will not impact the income to the three existing commercial stations in Fort McMurray, 2 owned by Rogers and 1 by Newcap. To ensure that continues to be the case, CKOS must play at least 90% of its music from Subcategory 35, which is non-classical religious.

The CRTC decision is here: http://crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2014/2014-599.htm

Anyone else notice the CRTC assessment of the market seems to be incorrect.

Harvard owns two stations and Rogers owns two. Newcap sold their stand alone station to Harvard last year.

Seems odd the CRTC decision only indicates three commercial FMs when there are four and the wrong ownership info too?

No way you can keep your nose above water, with this format - even if you had a 100,000 watt pusher.

Sorry.
