Two More Departures from Edmonton Radio

Postby jon » Mon Nov 24, 2014 5:15 pm

Lots of people on the move. Today, we have three people departing Edmonton Radio.

As reported in another post, Andrew Beckler is going to Calgary. We also have Daryl Hooke retiring from CHED after spending his entire 41 year career there. And, also in the same building, Pat Staron is leaving the Radio Business for the world of finance.

Daryl wrote about a few of his roles at Corus:
Copywriter: Living with years of crushing deadlines develops creativity on demand. Asking the right questions to discover a business’s true challenges requires the confidence to tell a client, “You’re wrong”. First ad writer to use “prices have been slashed”.

Creative Director: Everyone needs to be managed differently and that life would be much easier if everyone were just like you. Criticized staff who used clichés like “prices have been slashed”.

Promotion Director: No matter how much you plot, plan and prepare, something that has never occurred before will find a way to manifest itself at the most inconvenient time. Have a back-up plan. A back-up-back-up plan is also a good idea.

Program Director: If you are in charge and you don’t know the answer, ask questions. Involve your team – if they contribute, it’s easier for them to buy in. I now know what it’s like to be on-call twenty-four hours a day for 2,194 consecutive days, including vacations and Christmas.

Director of Client Services: Research is valuable but it’s a guideline, not an exact science. Learn from your failures. Track your successes. Don’t leave a jar of peanut butter on your desk when Bryan Hall is wandering around, hungry.

New Media Account Manager: Never stop learning. Technology changes at the speed of thought but content remains king. If your message doesn’t resonate with people, the delivery system is irrelevant.
