XL 103's Don Stevens suffers heart attack

Postby radiofan » Tue Apr 26, 2016 4:00 pm

From the XL 103 Facebook page ...

Thanks so much for all the messages about our Don. He had a heart attack at home on the weekend and, thanks to the swift work of the paramedics and doctors, he's going to be fine.
After putting his feet up for an extra week of vacay, he'll be back with Joanne and the Coach next week.

Wishing a speedy recovery to XL 103 (Calgary) Morning man Don Stevens.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

I'd heard awhile ago that Don, Joanne and The Coach were set to retire this Spring.

Wonder if this will speed up that plan?

I remember listening to Don on CHED in the late 1960s when I was in Jr High. Next I heard of him was in the 80s on AM 106.

He was "Don Hamilton" back then, was he not?

Yes he was. When he came to CKLG in Vancouver, the Manager's name was also Don Hamilton, so he became Don Stevens (the name he has used since then).

Don was a great jock, on CKLG, in the late Sixties.

I hope he takes it easy.....and doesn't hurry into work mode.

He is a really great broadcaster, and I wish him well.

Hope Don recovers fast and Yes a great jock.I am always proud to say Don is from Saskatoon. Interesting that in the early 80's when Don was on CKLG he was going head to head with another Saskatoon guy at CFUN by the name of Daryl B. Both afternoon drive at the same time on Vancouver airwaves. Great Radio.

Ahhh, Darryl and Don - hammer and tong...but I know they liked each other.

It was a WAR, when the mike was on - but socially - all the CFUN jocks, hung with CKLG, and CFMI, and CHRX (later), folks.

We would sack Hornby Street. We all partied with Drew Burns, at the Commodore. Later, it was 'Richards on Richards', too.

****I hope Don is making swift progress.
