Two New Edmonton Stations

Postby jon » Fri Jan 06, 2017 9:20 am

The long-time South Asian broadcaster in early evenings on CKJR-1440 Wetaskiwin (W-14-40) has been awarded 580 KHz on the AM band in Edmonton with 10,000 watts day and night. They promise to broadcast in at least 17 languages, and are required to broadcast 100% ethnic programming, though up to 9% of it can be in English.

A non-profit French language FM station has been licensed to 97.9 MHz with 180 watts.
The station would broadcast 126 hours of programming each broadcast week, including at least 92.5 hours of local programming produced by and for the French-language community in Edmonton. The remaining programming would originate from Réseau francophone d'Amérique and Radio France International.

So... 97.9MHz might either receive interference from CKWB Westlock especially in north/west Edmonton, or interrupt my enjoyment of CKWB haha.
