A "name" familiar to DX'ers, Bill Harms, heard Cool 8-80 (CHQT) in Maryland on Thursday night (11:15 p.m. Edmonton time), and is letting anyone interested listen in: http://philcobill.com/sounds/00880-20060915-0136-CHQT.mp3
He used a directional antenna to null out the signal from powerhouse WCBS in New York City. Before another station was licensed to the frequency in the late 1960s, WCBS could be heard in Vancouver on many a winter evening, with almost anything beyond a handheld transistor radio.
He believes that the other station heard in the recording is likely CKLQ in Brandon.
What I find amazing is that CHQT's night-time transmitter pattern sends almost no signal anywhere but North North West. See for yourself in the bottom right corner (scroll down a bit) of this long Web page:

If you want to see the CHQT towers from one winter day, zoom in here and switch to satellite view: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=53...+(CHQT-AM)&om=1
