MG-1200 Classic Gold Music (Edmonton/St. Albert)

With thanks to YouTube user Rewindium here are two more radio station TV commercials. This time, it's MG-1200 (now 104.9 FM Edmonton, Virgin Radio formerly EZ-Rock) during its classic gold music days.

There are two versions of the 1989 ad with the only difference being the backing music. Is that Barry Allen, of Rain Drops fame, at the start of the ads?

Prior to JOE-FM buying into billboards in a big way for their launch in the mid-2000s, MG-1200 and their red MG sports car may have had the record for most Edmonton area billboards in use by a single radio station. At least, they stick in my memory as a record breaker for the time.

A few years earlier, when CFRN's FM, CJKE-FM, contemplated a move to all "New Age" music, the PD who was promised the gig for the new format had got them to pre-book every bus bench in town for advertising the launch. Rather than billboards. Owner Dr. Rice eventually vetoed the new format, though the call letters and slogan "The Key", survived.

Since JOE-FM, of course, billboard buys by radio stations have shot up here. And, the moving billboards on the sides of buses and rapid transit.
