Like all things in the tech world, this news is a double edged sword. A chinese company claims to have reverse engineered the software that runs Skype.

E-Bay bought Skype for a couple of billion, and stands to lose... share price etc.

The link explains all the details here and worth the read if you are a techie or not.

The implications of this may cause the SIP `Session Initiation Protocol' format to become standard for VOIP.

It also could cause any Skype connections to be blocked if the source code is released into the wild or provided to government.

This blog has other tech items, including a bit on Google DRM (Digital Rights Management). DRM is a thorny issue with many, mostly because it can stop ownership of the video/music... all entertainment would be rental based as example if the DRM demands it.
