one last piece to remove

Postby johnsykes » Sun May 22, 2011 10:42 am

Several weeks ago, I signed on with Vipre for complete anti-virus protection. At the same time, I believed I had removed avgfree 9.0. I just downloaded a Vipre upgrade, and the program tells me avgfree 9.0 is still in the system and should be removed first. After looking all over the place, I find only one reference to avg.....avgrsstx.dll When trying to remove it, I am told I cannot. I tried Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove it.....Revo doesn't even recognize it exists. Any ideas?

For a couple of reasons, I would ask the VIPRE Support folks to help you. From what I've read, they will clean up your system manually (for free) whenever VIPRE won't do it automatically.

As well as the fact that VIPRE found the error, there is also the possibility that the AVG remnant you are seeing is malware disguising itself as AVG.

The two best ways to get support (even if you are still on a 30 day trial) are via a Support Ticket:

or Chat:

Right click on the filename to delete... select rename.

Reboot the machine, and then find the file with the changed name... right click on it, and select delete.

Done ! :)

Thanks Patric.....its now history. Called AVG and it was a gonner. Really appreciate the suggestions. Am keeping them on file for future use, just in case.

To give some substance to the above...

The OS is set to auto load the file on bootup... if the file isn't there, it won't load. By changing the name, it can't be found, and thus won't load.
