Global cancelling CTN?

Postby flyonthewall » Tue Jul 20, 2010 5:08 pm

I was visiting Global TV in Lake City today when an old friend pulled me aside and mentioned that Global has
cancelled their contract with CTN. Two more weeks of airborne traffic then it's done.

What happens on the radio side to folks like Sgt Rick and his NW reports? If their ain't no chopper, there
likely ain't no work.

I've always thought traffic reports on TV were kind of silly.

I guess Global feels it would be cheaper to charter a chopper if they need shots for a news story, than have one in the air all the time. Can CTV's be far behind...
And your cry baby, whiny-assed opinion would be...?

Is there really any reason for a TV station to have traffic reports?

That one has stumped me for years.

Howaboutthatinterestingpoint....I'm with Sparky! Why should a TV station pay for helicopter traffic reports,
when the people watching are already home in front of their TV sets??
Airborne traffic reports are best suited for radio.

Different markets are different. Here in Edmonton, with shorter commute times than Vancouver, Global and Corus both air traffic reports from CTN.

In addition, Shaw's Community Channel (Channel 10) runs AM Drive with CHED as the audio, live video in the CHED studios on the left side of the screen and rotating through the City's traffic cameras on the right.

I think "Traffic on TV" can work in Edmonton in the Morning. Watching TV while you prepare and eat breakfast makes it a no-brainer to add Traffic reports to the mix.

After all, someone is watching all these live local morning TV shows.
