noon news gone from Victoria

News from the world of Television

Postby duvaroo » Thu Jan 18, 2007 3:45 pm

The show's been axed. The last day will be Feb 2. 16 jobs gone, and now we'll have to turn to Vancouver during the lunch hour to get our TV fix. I for one will be sad to see it go.

duvaroo is referring to the noon-hour news on CH Vancouver Island. The usual 'part of a restructuring' plan was given as a reason for the cancellation.

Twelve staff members are directly affected with at least five of them losing their jobs.

Happy New Year!

Happy 50th Birthday CH!

Oh by the way, we'll start the next 50 by cutting a bit of fat and decreasing the amount of local programming.

Maybe it's because I'm a news nerd, but I think we need more noon news casts, not less. Flipping over to Global's noon news isn't going to cut it for islanders, they want and need their own cast at that time of day.
