Global Calgary moving downtown

Postby 45 RPM » Thu Feb 28, 2013 9:31 am

Global Calgary (2 & 7) announced last night that they will be making a move from their longtime home on Barlow Trail to Shaw Court in downtown Calgary.

I'm assuming they will be moving into the space that was occupied by Q107, Country 105 and QR 77 until last summer's fire in the building. The Corus radio stations are actively looking for a new home
that they hope to occupy within the next 2 - 3 years.

Is this a signal from Corus and Global owner Shaw that radio is no longer a part of the big picture? If they were planning to stay in the radio business, why wouldn't they have moved the radio stations
back into Shaw Court once the restoration work is done?

It's my understanding that the radio folks have always been treated as second class citizens by Shaw. They don't get the same half-price cable benefit among other things.

There's still a broad line in the sand drawn between Corus decisions and Shaw decisions. There may be significant cross-ownership but they still operate on islands.
