Jean Enersen, if not an icon, is certainly a fixture in Seattle.
As surely as Puget Sound is to the west and Mount Rainier is to the south, she is there on Channel 5.
And has been for 45 years.
KING/5 is marking her years with the station with a special program on Saturday night. The show, at 8 p.m. Saturday, is called "KING 5 News with Jean Enersen, An Anniversary Celebration."
On it, she will discuss her career with fellow anchor Dennis Bounds.
She joined the station in July 1968 at age 24 after working at a San Francisco station and while studying at Stanford University.
She told a Post-Intelligencer interviewer five years ago -- at the time the station was celebrating her 40th anniversary -- that in those early days, she met some resistance.
A cameraman once refused to get out of the car with her. She was also advised to drink whiskey just before going on the air to lower her voice. Smoking, she was told, would also do the trick.
She didn't heed the advice.
It didn't seem to hurt her career.
Take a look at the photos at the link here that mark some of her career highlights -- and the goofy promos she filmed for KING: http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/ ... 939846.php
