Cudos to CTV Vancouver

Postby Howaboutthat » Wed Aug 01, 2007 6:30 pm

On the day of a major bridge collapse in Minnesota, lots of amazing video, CTV Vancouver naturally leads with the story that will grab the attention of most people. Global BC leads with a cab driver who may have contracted TB from a fare in Victoria. Later Global goes to the catch-all quote machine Michael Levy, who says mortgages rates may be going up and the stock market may rally. (BTW - Global didn't run the bridge collapse until 630) Watch out Global, you're getting lazy, and we've seen what happened to a certain radio station that was known for its news coverage years ago, before IT got lazy! IMO, all CTV needs to do is come up with some younger, friendly anchors, and it might be able to give the perrenial TV news leader a run for its money.

Good point howbutit - but consider this:
Is it advertising or coverage that brings the audience home?

No - its habit - which sock do you put on first?

It took the team of Cameron Bell and Tony Parsons (throw in a dash of Keith Bradbury) about twenty years to establish BCTV news and it will take 20 more to kill that viewer loyalty.

Similiarly, NW is a shadow of its former self but the habit of listening is taking a long time to break. The internet has even played a role for this country bumpkin in allowing me to continue to listen in the absence of anything elso in radio in the mornings.

Let's see.... advertising, coverage and habit..... that's 3 socks.... you must be one funny looking dog.
I agree with your statement...my point was that if Global continues to lead with the 'here's another example of your government not working' stories...that could get old...especially for a younger demographic that wants quick, sexy, exciting stories. A 5 minute piece on a cabbie getting TB, isn't going to cut it.
