Postby flyonthewall » Tue Aug 25, 2015 11:45 am

Response to the increasing competition from CTV or more cost cutting....

Robin Stickley will be adding the noon news to the 5pm Early News she already does.

Sophie Lui gets shuffled to News Hour Final with Jay Durant.

Steve Darling gets rotating hosts in the morning till they find someone

All BC 1 shows have been cancelled.

And News Final anchor Anne Drewa becomes the Consumer reporter.

BC1 is a mess - these changes will be reflected in other markets and stations. The advertising business is a dog fight.

something that isn't mentioned.

This is in beta... it is working now, but has some issues.

That (Global live) looks pretty good. Some of the content appears to be out of date but visually it looks good on a 24# computer monitor. If it also looks good on a bigger TV screen it could be a factor in driving me to cut the cable cord.

Meanwhile, Global Regina is tweeting pictures of its new control room, which could mean the end of the centralized news production in use the past several years.

Wouldn't it be good to bring back the live News Hour control room in Burnaby? It was so much better than the green-screen stuff.

Latest work from the Global Titanic in Burnaby is that Sophie Lui won't be going to News Final, she will be co-anchoring the News Hour with Chris Gailus.

Apparently last weekend was the first for the Saskatoon (and I presume Regina) Global newscasts to originate from Toronto. I don't mean the control room, I mean the anchors.

Cord-cutting remains relatively niche in Canada. Never-cording, particularly by millennials, is an important factor for the service providers.

National polling in Canada does however show quite an appetite for cord-cutting, particularly in English Canada. In Quebec, which has had pick-and-pay channel selection for some time, there is far lower cord-cutting or consideration for it.

Here in the Vancouver market Shaw Communications has hit most customers with a 7% price increase recently. That has certainly accelerated water cooler discussion about cord-cutting.

I have never EVER seen a station (radio or tv) spend SO much time promoting the fact that their staff are moving to different day parts.
Is there THAT little news that they have to spend valuable air time talking about themselves?
And don't get me started on the Darling weightloss coverage (I mean GREAT for him...but really...during the actual NEWS?)
