At the risk of being "too early" - I post this for those who wish to rant or rave.

We all have Christmas songs and carols we enjoy hearing over and over, There are also those songs that we dislike to a point of distraction; What are your most liked and disliked Christmas/seasonal songs and/or carols?

Most disliked song: "Grandma Got run Over By A Rain Deer" - Irish Rovers

Olds songs are new again

Postby jon » Wed Nov 23, 2011 6:19 pm

"Driving Home for Christmas" by Chris Rea. Didn't hear it when it came out -- I avoided Christmas music like the plague in those days -- but liked it a lot when I first heard it in regular rotation here about 5 years ago. I actually thought it was new.

In the last week, I've learned that Chris is British and it was a bigger hit on the U.K. charts at Christmas 2007, 2008 and 2009 than its only previous charting, at Christmas 1988. I don't have access to the Billboard Christmas charts to know what it did in North America.

Assuming hagopian is referring to "Run Rudolf Run" by Chuck Berry, I don't recall hearing it played in the 1960s at Christmas on CFUN, CKLG, KOL or KJR. Because I don't recall ever having heard it until Bill Reiter played it on a two part Christmas Groovin' Blue on CHMB in 2001. As a result, not having heard it played endlessly, I very much like the song.

The worst Christmas song has to be "The Christmas Shoes" by NewSong. I would rather jam an ice pick into my ear than hear that whiney song ever again.

The fact that this boy would rather go shopping than spend time with his dying mother, just makes the song even worse.

Can't say as I've ever seen a Billboard Xmas chart or even heard of a yearly one for that matter.

The Chris Rea tune was basically a stiff .. it got very limited airplay when it came it, he was a 1 1/2 hit wonder at that point ("Fool" in 1979 and the sort of hit "On The Beach" in '87).. Great song, but not one that would ever get the airplay that any of the big burnt out Rock & Roll Christmas hits got/get.

I don't think I've ever heard "The Christmas Shoes" .. and it doesn't sound like I've missed anything.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Here's one that has to win an award for being so smooth .... the "Merry Christmas From CKLW" jingle into The Carpenters - Merry Christmas Darling ....

It even contains a short layunder to titillate the auditory senses, and bring a flood of memories of a time when men were men ... and .... well ... let's just leave it there shall we?

It's frightening how much I sound like Dean Martin when I'm accompanying him on Marshmallow World!

Rus; Did you have a little help from Dean's liquid encouragement? Or was it just your charming bubbly self coming through?

Favourite would be Russ singing 'Marshmallow World'. Or...was that Dean?
'Christmas in Jail' by Prairie Oyster is on my naughty list.

Have to agree with that Maria Carey thing...so irritating. '
I'd never heard this thing before my last gig..but it was played a zillion times during my eight year tenure..and I've grown to hate it with a passion. From the verrrrrrrrry young Moffats,"Earl the Xmas Squirrel":
