Bob Welch dies at 65

Postby gordo54 » Thu Jun 07, 2012 3:13 pm

Former Fleetwood Mac band member Bob Welch has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, at age 65, in Nashville, TN.
According to police, Welch's wife found him in their home at 12:15pm today... in addition to his time with Fleetwood Mac,
he was also known for his solo hits, "Ebony Eyes", and "Sentimental Lady"...
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill...

This is awful. I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Welch, twice.

My sincere best wishes and sympathies to his Family and friends.

RIP.

Eerily, Bob Weston died in January of this year:

As I recall, both Bob's were in Fleetwood Mac during the same period of time (early '70s), and both were guitarists and vocalists.

Sad news. Bob Welch was a right place/right time fit for the mighty Mac : they had recently lost founding guitarist Peter Green to increasingly schizoid behavior, and the much admired Danny Kirwan, suffering his own demons, was dumped uncerimoniously.Welch's fluid style of playing revitalized the band when they seemed quite likely to implode, never becoming more than just another long gone English blues band (think Atomic Rooster/Savoy Brown).
He owned two stand-out single releases in a pretty strong year for CHR,,but having always loved the original, he had me at Sentimental Lady.
And I do recall as an MD, going more than a couple of tracks deep into French Kiss.
Godsped Bob.
