"Skull & Roses - music of the Grateful Dead!" now a podcast!

Postby skyvalleyradio » Wed Feb 27, 2013 12:15 pm

Greetings all -

My newest labour of love in radio is a project I've wanted to do all my
life: a syndicated radio show on The Grateful Dead! Also included each show are
solo album tracks, outtakes, side-projects, a
continuous, live concert segment each show, and 'sit-in's' with other
musicians/groups, official releases, plus current music from the 'Core-4'
both live and in the studio and - of course, the latest, active
incarnation of the group, now called Furthur.

"Skull & Roses" is currently heard on CFSI-FM Salt Spring Island BC,
KBRW-AM Barrow, AK, KDNA-FM Ft Yukon, AK, KJDH-FM Coldfoot, AK and
Internet station CJJZ, and is now available for radio 'syndication'. I am
contacting more stations for carriage.

I've had many requests from family, fans & friends wanting me to post
these shows as podcasts for convenient, on-demand listening. A free-to-me
service called Streamer has now made this possible. Space is available for
me to post 4 shows - The first 4 episodes are now posted along with a few
other Dead-related goodies I've produced. A compromise, my hi-quality
audio files are only available to listen to, or download, at 128K mp3
bitrate from this site. I will leave the first 4 shows posted for at least
a month to give everyone a chance to listen. I will then gradually
replace these one at a time. Each 2-hour show is split into 4 files. My
attempts to post playlists for each show have been foiled by the scripting
layout in the "Show Description" box. These were very hard to read, so I
gave up and instead posted show highlights for each episode.

A gentle reminder listeners, that this is an adult program not for kids.
Band members tend to drop the odd f-bomb in their interviews &
outtakes, and these are NOT edited out by me. Since I am unsure how much
longer this will air on CFSI or the availability of this email access, I
kindly redirect you to contact me regarding "Skull & Roses" via:

cjjz.fm@gmail.com

Thanks for your support and encouragement to do this show! I hope you
enjoy my efforts to showcase the musical group who have been a part of my
life since a teen!

Says a lot for the Grateful Dead's impact. I'm not even sure there is a syndicated "Beatles Brunch" show anymore, so Mike's may be the last "single artist" syndicated show left.

Last time I checked, Sirius/XM only has two dedicated artist channels: Elvis and the Grateful Dead.

And, here in Alberta, CKUA only has one dedicated artist program: the Grateful Dead.

jon - in all honesty my new show is merely a clone of what has come before me. David Gans' excellent "Grateful Dead Hour" has been syndicated for a number of decades now. It continues to air on 20 or more campus/community FM's and is considered the 'official radio show' available through the band website. I've been aware that a Dead-icated show has been on CKUA for some time now too & there are plenty of other hosts doing Dead shows on non-comm radio. The show isn't too CANCON-friendly and because of it's occasional adult content, belongs on late-night/overnight radio - which is what I'm pitching to broadcasters :glasses7:
