I'm inclined to go with Orbison's 'Crying', having to choose from the three gangs of thugs who are serious contenders.

For anyone who disagrees with the Voting approach of "Hold your nose and vote for the lesser of the evils", there is always Hall & Oates: "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)".

Everyone in my family has loved that song since it first came out, so I was initially surprised when I first looked it up and discovered it never even Bubbled Under on the Billboard Hot 100. It did hit #12 and was on 8 weeks on the Billboard Easy Listening Charts in 1970. And it Bubbled Under on Record World's U.S. national pop chart.

In Canada, it never charted on RPM's Top Pop Singles, nor on CKVN, CFUN or CHUM. It was heavily played on CHQM, even after I arrived at the station a year after it fell out of the Billboard Easy Listening charts.

In the U.K., long after its Billboard Easy Listening chart action, it hit #17 and stayed on the British charts for 14 weeks.

An in-joke in our family was based on "The New World" being Edmonton's best Chinese restaurant until it was blown up to make way for Canada Place. The line in question is "The New World in the Morning takes so long".

All of which is a long way of saying that I thought that Jim had an interesting choice when it comes to "Election tunes".

From 1965, The Spokesmen had an answer song to Barry McGuire's "Eve Of Destruction", it was "The Dawn Of Correction"

ABBA's "Take A Chance On me." In the Can-con realm, "Race Among The Ruins" by Gordon Lightfoot. Both were released in 1976.
