Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore dies

Postby Steve Sanderson » Sun Feb 06, 2011 2:43 pm

Classic Rock is shocked to hear of the death of Northern Irish guitar legend Gary Moore.

Details are sketchy at present, but Moore apparently died in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday morning while on holiday in Spain. He was just 58.

It's Shocking and kind of scary too. Fifty eight seems so young an age to suddenly pass away in one's sleep - especially in the apparent absence of a pre-existing health issue.

Moore's skills lent Lizzy a penultimate signature sound during the late seventies. They were an amazing live concert draw. Both in sales and on the airwaves, their hits "The Boys Are Back In Town" and "Jailbreak" successfully bridged the era's rock and pop charts. At least to my ears, Lizzy's songs don't sound nearly as dated as many others from that era do today.

RIP Gary
