Genies' Who's That Knocking

Postby jon » Fri Mar 25, 2011 7:20 pm

I'd never heard of the song or group, much less heard the song, until about 10 days ago. Since then I've heard "Who's That Knocking" by The Genies over a half dozen times on "50s on 5" on XM/Sirius.

Great song, as you'll hear here:

Never made the Billboard R&B Charts, and peaked at #71 on the Hot 100. Because they are a Brooklyn group, I'm wondering if they didn't have a huge regional hit in New York City, given XM and Sirius main studios being there.

Anybody know anything about this song's success or failure on Radio? From early 1959.

According to a little research on Google, the Genies charted on WMGM New York for four weeks, February 16th to March 9th, 1959 reaching the #16 position. It charted one week on CHUM April 1st, 1959.
We are running in, when everybody else is running out.
